REVIEWS FROM ITALY

This Italian website has reviews of all three of our 7"s. The Google translation gets a little garbled, but whatever.

Extensive Interview

The interview that I (Jeff) did with Wasted Opportunities zine is now online. But you might want to make sure you have a few minutes to read it--it's almost 7000 words long!

One edit and a couple updates: First, it's of no consequence, but at one point I referred to Obama as a "Rockefeller Republican" and the Australian interviewer thought I had misspoke and edited it to "Rockefeller Democrat." What I was actually saying was that even though Obama is a Democrat, the Democratic party is basically the Republican party of forty years ago. It's another term for "moderate Republican." OK, that's cleared up.

The other items I wanted to mention as an epilogue to this interview are that I have researched biodiesel and it turns out that it is pretty harmful to the environment (you just can't win, can you?) and that I did end up getting to hang out with Joel Reader, as you may already know if you have seen the picture on this very blog of him posing with us and our Sarah 7".

OK, bye.

Japanese Reviews

Found this review of our albums at mawarumawaru.com. Probably not of much interest to anyone, but I just think the page looks really cool.

Hey, it's Joel Reader!

We took a photo with Joel Reader, AKA former MTX bassist, AKA the coolest guy ever. (In case anyone doesn't know, he played bass on the Mr. T Experience's "Love is Dead", which is the album that this Sarah 7" cover is a parody of.) I've gotten to hang out with Joel twice in my life now, and he couldn't be nicer. And he still has unparalleled rock moves on stage. His current band is The Fatal Flaw.

Super Old Video Discovered!

Hey, check it out, THIS VIDEO is from 2008 (MySpace!). It was filmed by Marty Ploy at the Broken Neck during the period when legendary punk cartoonist Ben Snakepit was our guitarist. (When the camera swings over to the crowd 4 seconds in, you can see Rawn Hall, who, unbeknownst to any of us at the time, would soon be filling that position.) Anyway, the video is of a very poor quality, but I thought it might be worth posting for it's historic value. The song is an old one that's not on any of our records, so I'll give you the lyrics here, since you can't hear them:

Same song, 27th verse
things get better then they get a lot worse
I swear you've put me through
so much mental anguish I could sue
we know we never go go go
I'm a square peg and you're a round hole
therefore, we cannot fit
never work out but we never want to quit
but this time I promise I'm
really moving on

OK, OK, I'm sure
you don't believe me 'cause I said it before
but now it's really done
I'mma go out and I'mma find someone
that's right, but 'til I do
I was kinda wondering if you
would come out and hang over with me
maybe have a drink or two or three
but next time I promise I'm
really moving on

"Wasted Opportunities" - Australian zine

Jeff was recently interviewed at length for the Australian zine Wasted Opportunities. You should totally order one. It's a pretty good interview and the price of $3 (+$2 shipping) is still below the cost of producing and mailing the zine. True DIY done for the love of the scene. Pick one up today.

We have fun.

New Song Available!

On our last tour we played a show in Columbia, MO at a punk space known as the Hair Hole. It was quite possibly the best non-Fest show of the tour. We just found out that, tragically, that spot is being torn down to build a parking garage. In order to help those awesome kids raise money for a new space for their awesome scene, we donated a brand new unreleased song for this comp. It also features jams by other bands that have played there, including Swearin', Big Eyes, In Defense, Braver, Eric Ayotte, and more. Check it out and donate what you can. We better not catch you downloading this for free.

Best of 2012

We put out a record last year. Some people enjoyed it. Some people felt it was one of the most enjoyable albums they heard all year, and some of those people have blogs, which give their opinions greater authority than yours or mine.

***
We made 12 out of 30 (how does one rank that many albums?) on IBuyWayTooManyRecords.com.

We beat out Green Day in Dylan from DyingScene.com's Top 10 list.

Uncle Critic presents a no-frills Top 25 list.

Briton's Joe Brigg's calls us "power-fighting power pop", which we are totally stealing, in his favorite 2012 punk releases. (It might be worth mentioning that Mr. Briggs is Mitch Clem's writing partner on the illustrious webcomic Nothing Nice to Say.

We were deemed "orgcore" enough to make the list of PunkNews.org editor John Flynn's picks.

Ovrld.com has an Austin-specific list that we made the Top 20 of.

TheNewScheme.com has us included, with a kind write-up, on a list of 10 Records I Neglected in 2012.

I don't know who decides to do a "Top 48", but they are bilingual and they rated us at a respectable #15!

The zine Wasted Opportunities from Australia got their Best of 2012 out a little late, but we made #8.

***

It's all very flattering. There were a lot of great records this year. Thanks for listening to ours.

(I have to say, Redd Kross's "Researching the Blues" should have been in everybody's top 5.)
